Large diaphragm condenser mic, medium diaphragm condenser mic, small diaphragm condenser mic, dynamic mics, broadcast mic, XY mic, all of these different kinds of microphones will be tested in this EPIC BATTLE!
We will test these microphones on voice for applications such as podcasts, voice-over, YouTube videos, etc…
You will hear several samples from different distances. There are raw samples and processed samples. The processed samples use iZotope Nectar 2.
The ZOOM H1 Handy Recorder
The Shure SM58 is a legendary microphone
It has a frequency response of 50Hz to 15KHz
The Phonic UM-99 is an inexpensive dynamic microphone.
It has a frequency response of 50Hz-15KHz and costs about $10
The RODE Procaster Broadcast quality dynamic microphone is a high quality mic. This mic works very well for all kinds of voice work. Just make sure you have enough gain to drive it.
It has a frequency response of 75Hz-18KHz
The Behringer B-2 Pro is a true large diaphragm condenser microphone, meaning you can really take advantage of the proximity effect to make your voice sound large and powerful.
The Behringer B-2 Pro has a frequency response of 20Hz-20KHz
The MXL USB .006 is a cardioid condenser USB microphone.
22mm diaphragm and a frequency response of 20Hz-20KHz
This is a USB microphone NOT XLR
The AT2020 has a 16mm diaphragm, so it’s not technically a large diaphragm condenser.
The proximity effect won’t be as exaggerated as with a large (1″) diaphragm. This can be good or bad depending on what you need and prefer.
The Behringer C-2 small diaphragm microphones have a frequency response of 20Hz-20KHz
