MIC WARS | Medium Diaphragm vs. Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic

MIC WARS | Audio-Technica AT2020 vs. MXL 2008

MIC WARS! The Audio-Technica AT2020 vs the MXL 2008!

The Audio-Technica AT2020 is a side-address condenser microphone. It is a 16mm medium diaphragm condenser microphone. It has a frequency response of 20Hz-20KHz. It uses an XLR cable and requires phantom power.

The MXL 2008 is a large diaphragm condenser microphone with a frequency response of 30Hz-20KHz. It is an XLR microphone, and requires phantom power.

We will test these microphones on voice for applications such as podcasts, voice-over, YouTube videos, etc…

You will hear several samples from different distances. There are raw samples and processed samples. The processed samples use iZotope Nectar 2.

The AT2020 has a 16mm diaphragm, so it’s not technically a large diaphragm condenser.
The proximity effect won’t be as exaggerated as with a large (1″) diaphragm. This can be good or bad depending on what you need and prefer.
