Waves REVERSES Course – PERPETUAL Licenses & WUP are BACK

Today Waves announced that they are going back to how things were! Perpetual license are coming back, ability to buy individual plugins is coming back, and WUP is coming back.

So basically, everything is going back to how it was before, and there’s a new Subscription plan you can get if you WANT to.

For those who were un-aware, you can read the original article here.

Waves announced on March 26, 2023 that subscribing to the new Waves Creative Access plan would be the ONLY way to get new plugins, and the ONLY way to get updates to plugins. They also announced that Waves Update Plan (WUP) was discontinued – meaning, the ONLY way you could use updated plugins would be to subscribe (and never own the updated license).

This caused a lot of issues for people who have invested thousands of dollars in Waves plugins over the years. In one swipe, Waves rendered those plugins worthless. You wouldn’t even be able to sell your plugins since current WUP is required to sell plugins, and they discontinued WUP.

So, someone with $5000 in Waves plugins now had to subscribe to a $25/month plan in order to get updated plugins. However, if they stopped paying, the updated plugins would stop working, and they would have to use the old versions that have been rendered worthless since they can’t be updated.

Another issue was people who used the Second License that you received with a current WUP. Since the subscription plan only gives one license, those people would of had to purchase TWO subscriptions – a doubling of what they were paying for a yearly WUP, plus they would never own the plugins.

But, all of that is in the past now. Waves has relented, and decided to say…never mind. Everything will go back to normal, and they will add a subscription plan that you can use if you want.

This is great news for everyone that was simply hoping for a WUP reinstatement. Waves took note of what it’s customers wanted, and changed course. You can’t ask for much more than that.

This swift move should inspire trust in Waves. No other company has moved so quickly when they realized the new plan wasn’t working.

So don’t be one of those people who begs a company to change, and when they do you say “too late“. I mean come on. Waves did what everybody wanted, if you abandon them now, then the next company will say: “We’re not changing anything because those customers won’t come back anyway“.

So Waves is back! Perpetual is back! WUP is back! Individual Plugins are back! So now it’s time to get back to recording and mixing ????
